Survey Guidelines

Bio Sci’s Institutional Research and Decision Support acts as a consultant to several units and academic leadership within the school, specializing in survey design and analysis. Our priority is survey projects that serve as tools for comprehensive school-based assessment. We possess a unique vantage point through our collaboration with central Institutional Research, and our knowledge of most surveys being conducted at the campus level.

Initial Steps

Overall, the following provides a rough guide of the survey process:

  1. Identify the purpose and objectives of the survey
  2. Determine target population or sample
  3. Create incentives for participation (optional)
  4. Design the survey questions or use an existing instrument
  5. Administer survey (including sending out reminders)
  6. Collect data
  7. Analyze
  8. Archive

To avoid survey fatigue, it’s highly recommended to review results from existing centrally or system administered surveys. If your question(s) can be answered by an existing survey, we will collaborate with the relevant unit to provide the information you need.
